""What's your favourite scary movie?"
|
With Halloween coming up, it's about this time of year I crack out the horror dvds.
My favourites include An American Werewolf in London, The Wicker Man, Dawn of the Dead, The Thing and then the more obvious picks like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Shining, and The Exorcist.
Also love Cronenberg's body horror films like Scanners, Shivers, Rapid and The Fly.
Modern film wise, the spanish original of The Orphanage shit me up.
I hope to get through some previously unseen ones ths year like The Descent, Martyrs, Witchfinder General, Drag Me to Hell, The Mist, and The Conjuring.
What are yours?

Not so sure about 'The exorcist' as a film, but the book was fucking scary. I would only read it during the daytime, if that makes me a bit of a wanker so be it!

Event horizon is very under rated, along with sunshine, which until the last 20 mins is an excellent Boyle film.

Event Horizon - part horror, part sci-fi, part thriller. My favourite film of all time (along with the Python films)

Just seen that 'The Babadook' comes out for Halloween in the UK, it's an Aussie made film and pretty damn scary! I'm not one to usually be bothered in the slightest by horrors - never seen one at the cinema before, and usually avoid them in general. But I enjoyed this one and it definitely got me at times! Also has a decent background story line - seen that it gets pretty high reviews on the main movie websites... would definitely recommend it for those wanting a decent scary movie on Halloween!

Original Halloween, favourite film (not just horror) of all time
Of the newer horror films, whilst not the scariest, Paranomal Activity spooked me out a bit, so much so when we was in bed I was convinced my missus was possesed and had my fist clenched ready to lump her one when she attacked
Sinister was pretty good as well

I liked House of a 1,000 corpses. But when there is to much blood and guts it just gets stupid, films like The Grudge are more creepy and that is what gets you I think

I didnt like hostel. The ending was far too convenient. With all the major antagonists running into the guy and getting their comeuppance.
That was a film that should have had an unhappy ending. I always feel horror films are a bit more powerful when the bad guys win and the heroes die. Always a bit more shocking they way.

The Exorcist nothing even compares but it helps to be alive in the late 1970's to truly appreciate it.

Hostel it was now I think about it - that was a bit gory, but not really scary.
Wolf Creek is another good one.
For me, the best horror movies are more about implied horror rather than seeing people hacked to death, for that reason 28 Weeks Later opening scene is one of the best scenes I can think of.

What was the one with the backpackers in Eastern Europe and the sexy chicks who lure them in, then it all ends in a gory bloodfest?
